About The Elvis
I couldn't bear to continue my usual routine of checking ESPN Boston, Pats Propaganda, reading the box scores, etc. The headlines read like sour milk. I had went to bed silent and sobbing, but I woke up angry and nauseous. Nothing that I read could soothe the colic and bile in my beer belly.
Forgetting was not an option. Forgiveness was out of the question. I live and die with this team, and that Monday after the SuperBowl I'd have welcomed death. The pain was so stubborn and immediate that I needed to distance myself from that game. I did the only thing that I could, I wrote.
Reading Mike Reiss and Jackie Mac would never make me feel better. Instead, I needed to come to terms with the loss on my own. Thus, The Flying Elvis was born. This blog became a way for me to rationalize and move forward from the most painful loss in Patriots history.
Since that time, The Flying Elvis has evolved into a legitimate website, reporting daily on The New England Patriots. This site is meant to be a departure from the national storylines involving The Patriots. Here at The Elvis, we focus on the meat-and-potatoes version of the story. We focus on football, and generally ignore the off-the-field non-sense.
At The Flying Elvis we report on X's and O's. We look at tape and break down plays. We compile stats and give direction as to what the numbers mean. We speculate and predict, but the goal is to base everything on visual evidence rather than opinion. We try to bring you unique content and game film that can't be found elsewhere.
Overall, the goal is just to publish a blog that I would want to read. I do not claim to be an "expert." No, I am an unabashed homer, and really, just a regular guy. Nevertheless, I try to do my research (my exhaustive research). I re-watch games many times over to form solid opinions, and I splice some of that tape to show my audience here. You may not agree with everything written here, but I promise that I have poured my heart and soul into everything you'll find on The Flying Elvis
Side Note: We call ourselves The Flying Elvis because that is the official name of the current Patriots logo. You know, this one:
See how it kind of looks like Elvis...
Also, I kind of like the ring that The Flying Elvis has to it. It sounds a lot more like a newspaper than anything else I could think of.
