Troy Brown, The Perfect Patriot
The love that we share for Troy Brown is undying because he consistently out-performed our expectations. Indeed, The Patriots of 2001-2005 absolutely exceeded our expectations, as individuals and as a team. The Defense had a solid core, and we expected consistency from them, but The Offense was strung together like a 3rd-grade macaroni necklace.
In 2001, this band of misfits was led by the fiery young back-up QB, Tom Brady. However, the veteran that held this macaroni mural together was absolutely Troy Brown. He absolutely did it all for the Offense. All this after being drafted in the 8th round.
More impressive than his 1,199 yards in 2001, was that he managed to gain 59 first downs for the team. The entire team managed only 101 first downs all season. Also, Troy added 4 first downs and 91 yards rushing the football. Likewise, Troy made a difference on the punt return with 413 yards and 2 TD.
When he Troy Brown was pressed into service as a DB, we didn't expect much. As usual though, Brown exceeded even our loftiest expectations, snagging 3 INTs en route to another championship in 2004.
Troy Brown was as reliable and versatile as a swiss army knife. He not only contributed, but was a major difference maker during the dynasty days, and not just on Offense, but in all 3 phases of the game. He was indeed The Perfect Patriot. We wouldn't have the hardware without him.
Brady only completed one downfield pass on this final drive. It went to Troy Brown, who also got out of bounds to stop the clock. Brady made a lot of smart plays, but it was Brown who ran a perfect route to beat his man when they needed it most.
Side Note: My favorite part of watching Troy Brown play, was watching his eyes light up when he had the ball in his hands. Seriously, he always looked like Emily Rose in the middle of her exorcism when he got a glimpse of the football.
