Speculative Depth Chart

Using the speculative roster cuts, it becomes easy to understand how hard it is to make tough personnel decisions, especially without being a fly on the training camp wall. I found it hard to justify keeping a FB on the squad, and I also had trouble distinguishing the litany of DBs under contract.  By position the roster may look like this

 QB
Brady / Hoyer / Mallet
RB
Ridley / Vereen / Woodhead
TE
Gronkowski / Hernandez / Fells
WR
Welker / Lloyd / Ocho / Branch / Underwood / Edelman / Slater / Gonzalez / Ebert
OT
Solder / Vollmer / Cannon / Gallery / (Light retired)
C/G
Koppen / Waters / Mankins / Connolly / McDonald / Kopa / Gallery
DT
Wilfork / Love / Brace / Harrison / Pryor
DE
Jones / Deaderick / Fanene / Silvestro / M. Carter
OLB
Ninkovich / Hightower / Fletcher / Koutovides / M. Carter
ILB
Mayo / Spikes / Hightower / Tarpinian / White
CB
McCourty / Arrington / Dowling / Moore / Dennard / Wilson / Williams / Cole / Ebner
S
Chung / Barrett / Gregory / Wilson / McCourty / Ebner / Moore
LS/K/P
Aiken / Gostkowski / Mesko

The team may decide to opt for more depth at DB as opposed to WR, but both positions are subject to intense competition. I expect some of my predictions to be wrong in these two positional groups. I think that the DB group has more practice squad eligible bodies than the WR corps, so that will certainly influence Belichick's decision.

Also, if a FB impresses in camp, expect Fiammetta, Larsen, and Kettani to compete for 2 possible roster spots.  Larsen's versatility to play ST/FB/LB should help him.  Nevertheless,  additional cuts/IR will need to come from either WR/DB to create space.
