Matt Light Retirement Thoughts

There are many stories coming out about Matt Light, and I want to write a thorough piece on such a great Patriots. Matt Light ultimately boils down to a Jekyll and Hyde story. He was openly bashed by internet trolls for years, but he was a solid LT. Trolls simply do not understand how difficult it is to play LT is the NFL.

The Jekyll and Hyde story is his performance in SB XLII.  Light and the Patriots OL unit were outplayed, and that matchup decided the outcome as much any helmet catching d-bag. Matt Light had been so solid for 18 games, and had arguably his best season.

At the moment, his performance in that game comes as a huge blow to his legacy. However, we often judge too harshly in failure. Likewise, we praise the triumphant too highly.  We also live in a what-how-you-done-for-me-lately society.  Let us not forget Matt Light the anchor at LT that was good enough to win 3 SB Titles.

Let us not forget the Triumphant Matt Light. He was a great veteran leader that gutted out his heart and soul on the gridiron while battling Crohn' s Disease (ya know, in his spare time...)

This guy is truly a hero. #72 would be a retired number, but the Patriots do not retire numbers. Instead, we've got the Hall at Patriot Place.  Matt Light will likely never land an exhibit in Canton, Ohio, but he will be remembered in New England. Not retiring player numbers is kind of cool because it coincides with the philosophy of the team first approach to everything. I like it, and its not just me.

When we remember Matt Light we will remember the 3 SB Titles in the glory years of 3 out of 4.  This was the prime of Light's career, and he will be remembered as a champion.

Now, its time to write new history with Nate Solder.  Matt Light's leadership and savvy will influence the team for years to come because the changing of the guard is complete.  Brady has a few years left, and he needs to be sure of his blindside. Light will be missed, but he did his job, and thats all that we ask for.
