1st Glance #blowout
This game was pretty much over at halftime. Its really unfortunate that there were some injuries late in the game because this one was never close. The only thing that The Rams did well was complete a 50+ yard pass to Givens. The only thing.
This was that feel-good-win that we've been waiting for. This was that Offensive explosion that we've expected of this team. This was a throwback to 2007. Hey, the Defense even looked good.
Tavon Wilson got beat on the same corner-post route that killed him against Seattle, but other than that Wilson made some nice plays including a game-ending interception. Dennard managed to extend his INT streak to 2 games with an eerily similar INT to the one against Sanchez last week. Sam Bradford managed only 205 yards, and was sacked twice.
Tom Brady had a perfect day, and that was impressive considering the amount of hands that tipped his passes. Sometimes tipped passes come back to haunt you, but sometimes you throw for 304 yards and 4 TDs on 23 of 35 passing (65%). Completing the blowout, Stevan Ridley had 127 yards and a TD on only 15 carries, including a 41 yard scamper. Shane Vereen looked good in limited reps, especially on a 17 yard screen pass which converted a 3rd and long.
All around, this is exactly what the doctor ordered for The Patriots. I suppose we can only hope that the injuries to Welker, Arrington, Brace, and Cole are minor. We had a few confidence building INTs by some young DBs, and although we gave up a deep TD, the Defense was dominant. No matter how you slice it, The Defense forced 2 turnovers and only gave up 7 points. They allowed a high completion rate, but they forced 4 turnovers (2 INTs and 2 on downs) and 4 punts on 9 drives. Also, they held The Rams to 3 of 10 on 3rd downs and 1 of 3 on 4th downs.
This was a real 60 minute performance, the first of the year. The running game was great, and Gronkowski looked healthy, fast, and strong with 8 catches for 146 yards and 2 TDs. The Defense played very well, getting nice performances from everyone. Spikes had 8 tackles and 2 passes defended, Mayo had 8 tackles and a tackle for a loss, and Chandler Jones added 2 tackles including a sack and a tackle for a loss. Another guy who really impressed was Marquis Cole, who had 1 tackle, 1 tackle for a loss, and 2 passes defended. Pretty good for a "next man up."
I just feel sorry for the London fans. They had to watch the least competitive game in the NFL this year. Although The Rams scored first, they had no chance. The Patriots were up 28-7 at halftime. Likewise, although the fans got to see a lot of punting, there was only 1 FG attempt. Still, I am happy for all of us Pats fans. This is that springboard win that could start a winning streak after the bye week. That's what I am hoping for.
