Pats @ Ravens: Seasons On The Line

The crazy thing about this match-up is that the landscape of Brady vs. Flacco is new. Up until now, Brady vs. Lewis dominated the discussion. Flacco proved that he could play at an elite level for a whole season plus a post-season, and he is a legit QB.

Brady needs to outplay every QB that he faces the rest of the way if this team has any chance of making the playoffs. Seriously, we need to clinch the division already. Miami looked capable of winning a few more games, and this Ravens game is in Baltimore.

The storyline of this season is very interesting from a Brady vs. Manning perspective, and I would be disappointed if America doesn't get to see that match-up in the playoffs. It would be really nice to get the #2 seed, and we're fortunate to control our own destiny.

The job is not done in the regular season, and all anyone can talk about is whether or not The Patriots have a chance to win the Superbowl. I think that's messed up. Still, I can understand that opinion because heading into this season our chances looked very promising.

I am tempted to list the awful-cookie-crumbles The Patriots have been through this season, but a list will not provide any emotion or context to it, so I'll have to go with short-paragraph-format.

The pushing penalty on FG vs. Jets was obviously a futile attempt to keep the Jets relevant early in the season. There is parity in the NFL with player talent, draft order, and even crooked officiating. The only things that separate teams are their QBs, coaches, and owners. The Patriots are winning in all 3 categories that matter, so our franchise can survive a few heinous and personal foul penalties calls like "trying to block a FG."

The Dolphins won that game because Ryan Tannehill is in the zone right now, and their defense makes teams get 10+ play drives to score. That is a recipe for success, but still Tom Brady put the ball on 3 sets of hands in the end zone at the end of the game. Should have come down with it.

Aaron Dobson or Kenbrell Thompkins would have been much better options for back shoulder jump balls in the end zone because of their height. But shoulda, woulda, coulda, if not for injuries is a stale story line.

The Gronk injury is more depressing than concerning. I think this team can win a Superbowl because Tom Brady is not on IR, but the road gets tougher each week. The Solder injury bears watching, as do the 14 other nagging injuries that limit practice time for key guys on Offense and Defense.

The season really is on the line in Baltimore because The Patriots need a big momentum win on Sunday to carry an undersized and undermanned team to close games decided by Brady comebacks when they (hopefull) make the playoffs.
