Wow Nick Perry...

I have not had much time to watch the combine this week, but this morning provided me an opportunity to check it out. I watched the DLs do some vertical jump, a little broad jump, and the 40-yard dash.

Nick Perry crushed the competition in the vertical jump with a 38.5"
He was among the leaders in the 40 at 4.50s, second to Bruce Irvin (another super-athletic guy to watch)
He is currently tied for first in the broad jump at 10'6"
Oh yeah, he also gave us 35 reps at the bench press...no biggie

Not much to say here because results are still unofficial, but it is obvious that Perry is incredibly athletic. Also, he has incredible explosion. His 10 yard split in the 40 was under 1.60, but he also has speed over distance. 4.50 is faster than some of the top WRs at the combine, so it is fair to say that Perry is a freak.

Indeed, Perry's athleticism was never in question, but he will need to improve his hand techniques and tackling if he wishes to get to the elite level in the NFL. He has begun to add weight to his frame, coming in at 274lbs.  This added weight makes his measureables all the more impressive.  As an edge rusher, Perry strikes fear into opposing offenses, but he is not a technician at the position.  In the NFL, Perry will need to rely on more than his speed and explosion. He has incredible potential, but he needs to invest himself in becoming a more disciplined, technical player.

Regardless, his performance at the combine increased his stock considerably. Originally, I thought that he might be around for the Pats at #27.  Now, I have my doubts that he will make it out of the top #15.
