Playbook - Moore Wilson

You guys (and gals) who appreciate literary humor see what I did with that title? Obviously this one is about Sterling Moore and Tavon Wilson. Moore is an undrafted sophmore and Wilson is an unheralded rookie, but here they communicate before the snap to diagnose the play. With great coaching and preparation Belichick can make young players look smart, but he can't tackle for them. Here Wilson makes a nice hit, wraps up and doesn't concede another yard as he drives Decker out of bounds.

Peyton Manning looks at Nickel personnel in cover two, he's got #23 McGahee on #51 Mayo, so #84 Tamme has bump coverage with a #25 Chung over top. On the other side of the field, he has better match-ups: #14 Stokley has press-man coverage with LB help to the inside. Stokley runs a decoy route to bring #24 Arrington into the middle. This isolates #88 Thomas and #87 Decker against #29 Sterling Moore and #27 Tavon Wilson.

Moore and Wilson gesture at each other pre-snap to indicate how they will cross each other. Moore says, "you've got Decker, and they are going to cross. You've got in front of me..." Wilson sees Decker's free release and his quick pattern, and he doesn't hesitate.

Not only did Tavon Wilson cover considerable ground to get there on time, he sticks Decker for a 2 yard catch and 0 YAC. It wasn't a brutal hit, but Wilson made a good NFL tackle. Likewise, he proved Peyton Manning wrong for trying to pick on him. Due to the crossing angles of Wilson and Moore, Peyton could have thrown to Thomas, but he chose to test Tavon Wilson's tackling/pursuit abilities. Bad Choice.

Peyton could have also tried to test Jerod Mayo against McGahee, but he knows better. He should get to know Tavon Wilson. Or he could retire. Although, I do kinda hope to see a 14th and 15th round of Brady vs. Manning because the Defense is back baby.
