Stats Are For Losers - Denver

This segment will continue to garner truth as the season progresses, but I think week 5 presents an interesting dilemma: whether or not one can start to trust the numbers. In weeks 1-4 it was way too soon, but now trends are starting to form.

I am not going to spend too much time breaking down this table because I don't really need to. I already did the work of compiling the stats that are relevant to me, you can make your own conclusions.

Some things that do stand out: Denver has the edge in 3rd down percentage, but in no other Offensive category. The Patriots Offense hopes to keep improving on 3rd down, and Denver's Defense allows the same 41% conversion rate that The Patriots Offense has. The New England Defense is not exactly clicking on all cylinders either, allowing a similar 41%. Denver's Offense tops them all at 46%. 41% mediocre on both sides of the ball. Offenses want to be above 45, and Defenses want to be below 35. This needs to get better.

Turnovers will be the biggest key to the game, and The Patriots have had a knack for taking it away. Hopefully that trend will continue. Denver has looked sloppy at times, and Demaryius Thomas already has 2 fumbles in this young season. Let's also continue the trend of 13 sacks on Manning to force a few turnovers.
