Concerns Against The Texans
Everyone will get caught up with how bad Texans played in the last game. The same people will say that they didn't impress against Cincinnati. These people are absolutely right, but it doesn't mean that New England is a +9 point lock. I could see this one ending up 24-34 or I could see it going 23-24, and the scores could go either way.
The keys to victory will be the same as last game. They are good keys to win any game, but this match-up is is so very much about fundamentals. The turnover ratio will be crucial because every possession will have heightened importance. The Patriots are going to be businesslike, but the attitude of the Texans is a concern.
Gary Kubiak, Matt Schaub, and even J.J. Watt are not typical ra-ra emotional guys, but if Houston can capture some swagger from their latest win, they could be dangerous. Houston is supposed to lose, so they can play loose and aggressive. If a few plays bounce the wrong way, Houston Defense could take over the game.
The Patriots offensive line needs to dominate like they did last game. The execution on our part was the reason for the victory, but we also got some favorable breaks (2 fumbles). The execution needs to be as good or better to withstand any bad bounces, bad calls, or mistakes. The defensive line has really been doing some damage lately, and pressuring Schaub with 4 or 5 will force him into some errors. I don't think we need to blitz much, but if we can pick our spots to execute on defense, then we can stall some drives or force some turnovers.
All in all, The Texans are a good team that didn't play their game last time around. The Patriots forced The Texans into a shootout with their tempo, and they weren't ready. Likewise, Matt Schuab made a bad throw in the red zone because he felt the pressure to score. If the 1st quarter happens to go in favor of The Texans, then we will be looking at physical defensive struggle.
In my opinion, it's not what they do, but what we do. We just have to handle business, and execute. Our ability or inability to be more consistent than The Texans will decide the outcome. We can't turn it over, and we need to play to our style.
Quite simply, JJ Watt needs to be blocked and kept out of the passing lanes |
