There's Something Special About This Team.

The injury to Sebastian Vollmer will only advance the adversity we'll face this year. Brady is getting called washed-up, but I honestly think he has a legitimate chance to be the MVP of the league this year. He'll need to beat Peyton head-to-head and Alex Smith needs to lose a couple games, but one could make the argument that Brady is the guy.

Brady's team is collectively less talented than ever before, and each week, another major player goes down with injury. Yet, Brady is still winning games. He's got a perfect home record, and his losses have been close games against respectable opponents.

If Brady can rattle off enough wins to snag the #1 or #2 seed and get a first round bye, then he has to be the MVP of the league. Still, Let's agree that this theory is contingent upon the idea that Brady will beat Manning when they collide.

I am the only one calling this out after a game where Brady threw for less than 200 yards with a pick-6 and a fumble, but who won the game? The Patriots did. The swollen-handed and under-manned Patriots managed to get it done.

Brady's story is so transcendent that it cannot be completed without the incredible adversity and role reversal that we are seeing here. Brady is looking old, and his team is looking thin. Yet somehow, they keep winning games.

The Patriots will face an underperforming Pittsburg Steelers team at Gillette Stadium on Sunday in their last game before a much-needed bye week. If all goes well, Brady will enter the bye week at 7-2, and the cavalry of Shane Vereen, Armond Armstead, Tommy Kelly, and Aqib Talib should return to the field after a little extra rest.

Remember that Belichick had his team at 5-3 at this time last year, but ended 12-4 with the #1 seed in the AFC. Brady has not been afforded great protection, and he has yet to fully connect with all of his receivers. I expect this to change slowly but surely, and sooner or later the offense will be fine.

Tom Brady has not lost the capability to be great, as many have suggested. He has missed throws and made bad decisions, but is still my QB. The whole team just needs to figure it out, but even in the utterly dismal state they've been wallowing in, they're still 6-2. I can see them going 12-4, but I think Brady needs to win 13 or 14 to compete for MVP. Still, I could easily see this team figure it out, and keep winning.

Call me a homer or whatever, but somehow this team continues to compete for 60 minutes. That's worth something in this league, and if you've got Brady under center, you have a great chance to win every week.
